UPDATE 2: The victim in this case has been identified as 44-year-old Sharell Canty of Grayson. Detectives have arrested 48-year-old Stephany Byrom, also of Grayson. Byrom has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

UPDATE: Based on preliminary findings this case is now being investigated as a domestic related homicide.

ORIGINAL: (Grayson, Ga., Sunday May 24, 2026) – The Gwinnett Police Department Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigators are currently investigating a death that occurred on the 300 block of Wilkerson Way in unincorporated Grayson. At 8:42 a.m. a neighbor contacted police regarding a person deceased. When officers arrived, they located the victim and contacted homicide investigators and crime scene investigators. At this time, officers are not sure exactly what took place and there are few details that are known. It is believed that this was an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety. As more details are uncovered, more information as to the nature of the incident may be released. The identity of the victim will be released pending notification of next of kin.
