Learn More(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 20, 2009) - The second meeting of Engage Gwinnett, the citizens committee on the future of Gwinnett County, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Room 5 ABC at Gwinnett Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
The intentionally-diverse, 42-member committee is studying the county's future and in six months will make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners on desired public services, revenues, and spending levels for the next five years. The initiative is a partnership between County government and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce in response to drastic budget cuts in county services. Co-chaired by volunteer leaders Mike Levengood of McKenna Long & Aldridge and Cisco Systems' Bill McCargo, the initiative aims to involve and engage the community in county budget decision-making.
All meetings are open to the public as the committee seeks common ground, workable solutions and compromises as necessary for the greater good of the community to help guide the County through the challenging economic recession.
At least 12 scheduled committee meetings and three public forums have been announced. Video coverage and meeting materials are available online at www.engagegwinnett.com and on government-access television TVgwinnett, cable channel 23. Engage Gwinnett is also on Facebook and Twitter to help the public follow its proceedings.
