(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 14, 2010) - Gwinnett County Administrator Glenn Stephens has made two appointments to key senior management positions within the organization. The move fills one of two Deputy County Administrator positions that have been vacant since the end of 2009. The Board of Commissioners ratified the employment agreements today.
Current chief financial officer and finance director Aaron Bovos is the new deputy and he will retain his CFO title. Various internal departments including Support Services, Information Technology, Human Resources and Finance will report to him.
Deputy finance director Maria Woods will replace Bovos as finance director. Both appointments are effective immediately.
Board of Commissioners Vice Chairman and District 1 Commissioner Shirley Lasseter said, "I'm delighted that our County Administrator has made these new appointments to help strengthen our ability to operate in a fiscally responsible manner as we deal with the consequences of falling revenues, rising costs and increasing needs for local government services."
Bovos has been in his current position since April 2009 and served as budget director in 2007. "To a significant degree, this promotion simply formalizes a role that Aaron has been filling for the past year. He has played a pivotal role as the county government has managed its way through perhaps the most difficult financial challenges in our history. His leadership and management skills will be needed even more in the months and years to come," Stephens said.
Woods has been with Gwinnett County since 1997 and has over two dozen years' experience in local government. "Maria has been a critical part of Gwinnett County's financial services operations for many years and I'm confident she has the knowledge and experience to manage this vital aspect of County operations," Bovos said.
