Flood Information Is On Gwinnett Website

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 23, 2009) - Gwinnett officials have opened an emergency call center and have posted flood-related information including road closings, damage reporting and advice from emergency management staff on the County's website, www.gwinnettcounty.com.

The call center, at (678) 518-4880, will be staffed during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) to help individuals register for a flood damage assessment. A form for reporting damage to homes and businesses was posted on Wednesday. It is intended to alert damage-assessment teams who will report their findings to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) in support of a request for federal disaster assistance. Greg Swanson, acting director for Gwinnett's Emergency Management Agency, stressed that the form is not for insurance purposes and that teams will only check properties from the outside.

Police, fire and other County officials will post their answers to the most frequently asked questions about the flood, and video taken at the peak of the flood will be posted for on-demand viewing soon.
