Hog Mountain Road water main improvements, park upgrades

(Lawrenceville, Ga., July 20, 2023) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners acted on several new initiatives this week. Here’s a recap:

A new water main on Hog Mountain Road

Hog Mountain Road will soon get a new water main installed. The water main is 1.5 miles long and will stretch between Jim Moore Road and Mineral Springs Road in unincorporated Gwinnett.

The project will also install three check valves to create a new rock quarry pressure zone.

These improvements will lower and stabilize pressure and help minimize water main breaks in the area.

Revitalizing Best Friend Park and Shorty Howell Park

The playground equipment at Best Friend Park in Norcross and Shorty Howell Park in Duluth may soon be replaced. The County will apply for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant which will help pay for the upgrades. Both parks were originally developed with Land and Water Conservation grant funds and are home to playgrounds that have been used for nearly two decades 

 If awarded, the fund will pay for $500,000 of the project and the remaining $500,000 will be paid from the 2023 SPLOST fund.
