GWINNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ROUNDUP

Police mental health collaboration, transportation updates and more

(Lawrenceville, Ga., June 23, 2023) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners gave the greenlight to several new initiatives earlier this week. Here’s a recap:

Gwinnett Police continues partnership with View Point Health

The Gwinnett Police Behavioral Health Unit contract with View Point Health has been extended. By adding police and licensed mental health clinician teams into police operations, Gwinnett Police can use compassion and collaboration to help with those experiencing a mental health crisis. The unit plays a key role in answering routine and emergency calls with an opportunity for residents to receive the care they need. The growth of this partnership has also led to the addition of more licensed clinicians in the unit.

Technology package supports RIDE Gwinnett services

As the new branding of RIDE Gwinnett hits roads across the county, commissioners also want to make sure the functionality of the microtransit and paratransit vehicles meets the Gwinnett standard.

RideCo U.S. software will be used to manage the deployment of microtransit services in the Lawrenceville and Snellville zones along with paratransit service for the three new local routes and existing local service. Microtransit is an on-demand service where riders can schedule trips to locations within designated areas. Training on how to use the app will launch in August.

New route, new bus shelters

In other transportation-related news, there will be more modern bus shelters along the new local Route 25.  The construction of bus shelters along the route will provide safe, protective waiting areas for riders. Through innovative design and technology, the bus shelters will provide real-time information to riders.

Route 25 connects the Gwinnett Place Transit Center through Lilburn and to Stone Mountain and the Amazon facility. Gwinnett Transportation was awarded $2 million from the Community Project Fund. The grant requires the County to provide a local match of $500,000 for a total project cost of $2.5 million.

Eastern Regional Greenway Trail construction update

The county’s project moves forward on a trail that will enhance Gwinnett’s transportation infrastructure while promoting outdoor recreation in the state. County leaders amended their  contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation regarding the Eastern Regional Infrastructure Project. The multiuse trail can be used for walking, cycling and other non-motorized uses. The $125 million project is funded by the 2017 SPLOST.
