Learn More(Lawrenceville, Ga., April 11, 2013) – People everywhere are sprucing up their homes for spring. After all that cleaning, Gwinnett County residents can recycle their stacks of old files, old and broken electronics, flat tires and half-used cans of paint at the Gwinnett County Solid Waste and Recovered Materials’ Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m..
This event will take place at Coolray Field, home of the Gwinnett Braves. It’s free to the public and includes paper shredding, electronics recycling ($10 cash charge to recycle TVs), tire recycling (limit eight tires per vehicle, no dealer tires) and paint collection (limit five one-gallon paint cans per vehicle; no paint thinners, stains, spackle, oil paint cans, rusted paint cans or dried-up paint). The paint will be donated to Global Paint for Charity, an Atlanta-based nonprofit that recovers leftover paint and distributes it to developing countries around the world. There will also be touch-a-truck displays for kids, giveaways and helpful information about the County’s solid waste and recycling plan.
“We’ve been able to recycle more than 60,000 tons of waste since Gwinnett’s countywide trash and recycling program has been in place, but there’s still more we can do,” said Tom Keith, Solid Waste and Recycled Materials Division director. “This event not only gives us an opportunity to stress the importance of recycling and get more residents involved, but with the paint recycling, we can make a difference around the world.”
Sponsors of the event are La Raza 102.3/100.1 FM, the Gwinnett Braves, Recall, Global Paint for Charity, Amerisouth Recycling, Advanced Disposal, Republic Services, Sanitation Solutions Incorporated, Southern Sanitation and Waste Pro.
