WHAT: Gwinnett County will officially open a Nutrient Recovery Facility at F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center in partnership with Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies (Ostara).
WHO: Hosted by the Gwinnett County Government & Ostara with keynote address by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Attorney & Environmental Lawyer

WHERE: F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center
3220 Financial Center Way
Buford, Georgia
WHEN: Oct. 21, 2015, at 10:30a.m.
WHY: The opening of the nutrient recovery facility marks a major breakthrough in Georgia’s fight against one of the most critical environmental challenges facing our planet: algae blooms. The state’s vast array of rivers and streams make it a sensitive target for excess phosphorus loading resulting in algae blooms and commonly leading to the destruction of precious aquatic ecosystems. In partnership with Ostara, Gwinnett County will responsibly control phosphorus levels to protect the sensitive ecosystems inhabiting Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochee River and continue as a leading example of water stewardship and resource recovery for the nation.

About the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources
Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources is a public utility committed to providing water, wastewater, and stormwater services in one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. An important part of these services is to recover resources from wastewater: reclaim water to return to the water supply, convert gas to energy, and reclaim nutrients to create fertilizer. The agency currently operates three treatment facilities – F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center (WRC), Crooked Creek Water Reclamation Facility and Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility – that are permitted to treat approximately 60MGD, 22MGD and 16MGD, respectively. Under combined service efforts, more than 75 percent of the high-quality reclaimed water enters the Chattahoochee River watershed each day, making effective treatment crucial in protecting a main source of drinking water.
About Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc.
Ostara helps protect precious water resources by changing the way cities around the world manage nutrients in wastewater streams. The company’s Pearl® technology recovers phosphorus and nitrogen at municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants and transforms them into a high-value, eco-friendly fertilizer, Crystal Green®. The process greatly reduces nutrient management costs and helps plants meet increasingly stringent discharge limits while improving operating reliability. Crystal Green is an enhanced efficiency fertilizer comprised of phosphorus, nitrogen and magnesium (5-28-0 10% Mg), and is marketed through a global network of blenders and distributors to growers in the turf, horticultural and agriculture sectors. Its unique plant-activated mode of action improves crop yields, enhances turf performance and significantly reduces the risk of leaching and runoff, thus protecting local waterways from the nutrient pollution. Ostara operates multiple facilities throughout North America and Europe and recently partnered with the City of Chicago to build what will be the largest municipal nutrient recovery facility in the world when launched in 2016. The company is the recipient of numerous awards including a World Economic Forum 2011 Technology Pioneer, the Global Cleantech 100 and Deloitte’s Technology Green 15.
