(Buford, Ga., Sept. 3, 2013) – The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center Foundation is providing a $26,000 donation to Gwinnett County in the form of a new concession trailer (valued at $16,000) and a $10,000 monetary donation toward the purchase of a passenger tram. This effort meets the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners initiative to reduce costs by enhancing revenue opportunities and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
The Foundation’s donation toward the purchase of an outdoor educational tram will improve the quality of life for the citizens of Gwinnett with special needs. The tram will allow senior citizens, small children, expectant mothers, community members with disabilities and others to access the trails at the Center and greatly expand their ability to connect with nature. The Center provides a number of outdoor programs that use the trails located on the campus, including nature walks, bird watching, animal tracking, native plant identification, and future Chesser-Williams House and AGCO Living Farm exhibits. Having the ability to transport older adults and people with special needs will vastly increase the ability of the Center to serve these populations.
Additionally, the Foundation is donating a transportable concession trailer that will enable the Center to generate more revenue. The Center frequently hosts a wide variety of outdoor festivals and programs and has increased the number of special events with the recent opening of the new festival field. Both the tram and the concession trailer are designed to be low maintenance and require only minor routine upkeep.
