(Lawrenceville, Ga., June 7, 2011) - Last month, the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services joined 100 other fire departments across the state of Georgia to collect donations through the 21st annual Give Burns the Boot® drive. Gwinnett residents donated a total of $52,158.92 to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation during three Saturdays in May, marking the 2011 drive a success in Gwinnett.
The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation supports burn centers, burn camps and burn prevention programs throughout Georgia. Funds collected through the drive will benefit residents and firefighters who experience the tragedy and pain of a severe burn injury. Ten percent of the total amount collected will be returned to the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services for smoke alarms and community fire safety education materials.
"The amount of money donated by Gwinnett County residents demonstrates public support of our department and an overall commitment to providing a fire safe community," said Fire Chief Bill Myers. "I'd like to say a special thank you to everyone who participated in the Give Burns the Boot® drive."
