Two fallen heroes will be inducted into the memorial during the ceremony:
Gwinnett County Police Officer Pradeep Tamang died in the line of duty on February 1, 2026, during a dispatch call. He joined the Police Department in July 2024 and graduated from the 121st Police Academy in May 2025. Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure awarded Officer Tamang three posthumous honors, including the Medal of Valor, the department’s highest award.
DeKalb County Police Officer David R. Rose, who once lived in Gwinnett County and graduated from Peachtree Ridge High School in 2011, died in the line of duty on August 8, 2025. He joined the DeKalb Police Academy in September 2024 and graduated in March 2025. Rose also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years before becoming a police officer.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony to honor Officer Tamang, Officer Rose, and other fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives to serve and protect our nation and our community.
The keynote address will be given by U.S. Army veteran and city of Duluth councilmember Marline Thomas.
Other officials scheduled to speak include Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden, District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III, and District 4 Commissioner Matthew Holtkamp. Gwinnett Police Chief J.D. McClure will emcee. A combined public safety honor guard will also participate in the ceremony.
The Memorial Day ceremony will also stream live on the County’s Facebook page @GwinnettGov. The Memorial Day Ceremony will be televised beginning May 26 at 8:00pm on TV Gwinnett, your local government access cable channel. TV Gwinnett programming is also available streaming and on demand at TVGwinnett.com, as well as on the TV Gwinnett apps for Roku and Amazon Fire.
The Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial, located on the grounds of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville, honors all Gwinnett residents who died in the line of duty in military or public service. The memorial opened in 2003 and was built with funds from private donations and Gwinnett County Government. For additional information about the memorial, visit GwinnettFallenHeroes.com.
