Three things to do this weekend in Gwinnett

From July 4 to August 2, Gwinnett is joining the nation in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with a themed celebration, “Realizing America's Vision: Celebrating 250 Years." Each week, we’ll share things to do during the monthlong celebration of this historic milestone.

Check out these events happening Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5

Take a self-guided tour of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse served as the center of county business for more than a century. Take in the charming architectural details on an open walking tour or visit the Gwinnett Veterans Memorial Museum.

The site is open on Friday, July 3 from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

Find a new furry friend
Adopt a dog at Red, White, Woof, & You on Saturday, July 4 from 11:00am to 4:00pm at the Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center. To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, dogs that have been held at the shelter for more than 250 hours — or 10 or more days — can be adopted for just $25!

This event is free for all ages. Each adoption also comes with a Freedom Bundle gift pack to help your pup start their journey home.

For more information, visit the registration page or call 770.339.3200.

Revisit history at the Yellow River Post Office Site
Once a bustling hub for farming and business in southern Gwinnett, the Yellow River Post Office Site is now a 5-acre park featuring a unique collection of historic structures, including the original post office building and the 1840s Hudson-Nash House. Tour the farmstead grounds on a short loop — reading about the signs chronicling history along the way — before relaxing and enjoying the scenery at the site’s picnic tables.

The site is open every day from sunrise until sunset unless posted otherwise.

Check out our events calendar to find more events happening near you.
