The Junior District Attorney and Investigator Mentorship Program is a premier initiative of the Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office Community Outreach Program. Since its inception, the program has successfully graduated five cohorts of high school students, providing an immersive, hands-on introduction to the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit and the criminal justice system. Participants explore the practical roles of the courts, law enforcement, corrections, and prosecution while working alongside assistant district attorneys, investigators, and administrative professionals.
Through interactive training, students develop leadership, self-discipline, legal knowledge, communication, and other valuable life skills while gaining insight into careers in public service and criminal justice. Participants also have the opportunity to earn community service hours as they build meaningful connections with justice professionals and fellow student leaders. Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Candidates must be in good standing in their school and community.
- Candidates must be 15-18 years old and attend a Gwinnett County public school. (Attendance outside of Gwinnett County may be approved on a case-by-case basis.)
- Candidates must be drug and alcohol-free throughout the program.
- Candidates must have regular attendance and be on time. Candidates must notify the office if they are unable to attend or are going to be late.
- Candidates must adhere to all rules and regulations of the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.
- Candidates must provide a recommendation from a teacher, administrator, or community leader.
- Parents and candidates must e-sign the online application and attend orientation.
