Request your absentee ballot
Voters can request absentee ballots up to 78 days before an election. You must first complete an absentee ballot application before we issue an absentee ballot. It’s best to apply as soon as possible — the deadline to receive absentee ballot applications for processing is 11 days before Election Day.
Please note, except in the case of physically disabled electors residing in the county or electors in custody in a jail or other detention facility in the county, no absentee ballot shall be mailed to an address other than the permanent mailing address of the elector as recorded on the elector's voter registration record or a temporary out-of-county address.
If you’re not sure about the address information you have on file, visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page or call Gwinnett Voter Registrations & Elections at 678.226.7210. Call volume may increase during an election season, so please be prepared to leave a voicemail.

Mark your absentee ballot
Once your absentee ballot application is received, Gwinnett Voter Registrations & Elections will review your application and issue an absentee ballot by mail.
To ensure your absentee ballot is counted, keep the following guidelines in mind when marking your ballot:
- Use a black or blue ink pen.
- If it’s a yes or no question, completely fill in the oval to the left of the candidate’s name or issue. Do not make a check mark or “x” in the oval.
- Only fill in the oval for the number of votes you may cast in one race (i.e., vote for one or vote for two). If you fill in more than what is allowed, that race will not be counted on your ballot.
- Do not write in a name that’s already listed on the ballot.
- The ballots for some elections contain more than one page. Ensure you review and vote on all your choices on all pages.
For more information, see absentee ballot instructions in English or Spanish.
Seal, sign, and return your absentee ballot
Once you have completed your absentee ballot, place your voted absentee ballot in the oath and privacy envelope provided. If you are missing an envelope, please call the Voter Registrations & Elections Office at 678.226.7210.
To ensure your absentee ballot is counted, keep the following important guidelines in mind when sealing your ballot:
- Carefully follow the instructions for the oath envelopes.
- Do not place another person’s voted ballot inside the oath envelopes.
- If the ballot is more than one page, please enclose all the pages that contain your votes.
- Sign or make your mark in the oath where indicated. If you can’t sign your name, you must still make a mark on the signature line.
- If you received assistance in voting the ballot, the person assisting must also sign where indicated.
