The Gwinnett County Police Community Affairs Section provides free, one-hour safety and crime-prevention seminars to groups across Gwinnett County. Our officers regularly speak with neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and community organizations, bringing practical guidance on how to stay safe and informed. If you have at least ten participants, we’re happy to join your next meeting or event—at home or at work—to present any of our available seminar topics.

For questions or to schedule a session, contact the Crime Prevention Coordinator at PDCommunityAffairs@GwinnettCounty.com.

An active shooter is a person involved in an ongoing shooting incident who is attempting to harm people in a confined or populated area.

Gwinnett Police is offering active violence courses that outline the importance of situational awareness, and the concepts RUN, HIDE, FIGHT and AVOID, DENY, DEFEND. These concepts will be learned in a classroom setting and will not be physical scenarios.

Learn different ways to protect yourself and your loved ones if an active violence situation occurs and what to do after police officers arrive.

New classes will be available in January 2026.

Rape Aggression Defense is a simple yet effective self-defense class for women only. This course consists of a lecture portion, which focuses on Risk Awareness, Risk Reduction, and Risk Avoidance, followed by hands-on tactical training. The techniques taught are designed to be quick and effective. The course is designed such that women of all fitness levels and ages will be successful in learning options to escape attacks.

R.A.D. is one of only a handful of self-defense classes that offers a live simulation at its conclusion. This portion of the course is invaluable in that it provides the student with the confidence to defend themselves.

Rape Aggression Defense is a 12-hour course, delivered in four, three-hour classes. Participation in the first three classes is required to participate in simulation as the course is progressive in technique development.

R.A.D. is offered to women 16 and older. Participants ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a female family member who is at least 18 years old and will participate in the class. Participants must be able to attend all classes, no exceptions.
