BODY FOUND IN BURNED CAR ***UPDATE 2*** SUSPECTS ARRESTED
***UPDATE*** (Wednesday, May 25, 2011) The Homicide Unit developed Boris Mejia (18 years old, H/M) as a suspect in this case. Boris was a friend of Nassos, and was known to her circle of friends. Detectives went to Boris' home in Tucker on May 25, 2011, and found that he was not at home. They spoke to his father, Ignacio Mejia (50 years old, H/M), and a few other family members. The investigation revealed probable cause to believe that Boris had, in fact, killed Andrea Nassos. Boris attempted to bury her at Ignacio's home. Boris then moved Nassos' body and her vehicle, to Lucky Shoals Park, where he set the vehicle on fire. The investigation revealed that Ignacio drove Boris to Houston, Texas, after the arson. Ignacio was taken into custody and charged with tampering with evidence and hindering the apprehension of a criminal.
The Houston Police Department coordinated with the GCPD Homicide Unit and was able to locate Boris Mejia within their jurisdiction. They took him into custody without incident. The investigation in Houston revealed further probable cause to believe that Boris was responsible for the homicide. It was determined that Nassos was killed in her apartment on LaVista Road in Dekalb County.
Boris Mejia is charged with arson and tampering with evidence in Gwinnett County. The Gwinnett County Police Department and Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office have coordinated turning the case over to Dekalb County authorities. This is due to the issue of venue; the homicide actually occurred in Dekalb County. Boris Mejia will be transferred back to Georgia at a future date. Ignacio Mejia remains in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
