GWINNETT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ROUNDUP

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 26, 2025) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved several items during its Aug. 19 meeting that reflect continued investments in community wellness, public safety and infrastructure. Highlights include a donation from global soccer star Lionel Messi’s brand, partnerships with local CIDs and a new bridge in southern Gwinnett.

Messi donation supports mobile wellness

Through his energy drink brand MÁS+ by Messi, international soccer legend Lionel Messi donated $10,000 to support Live Healthy Gwinnett’s Be Active Gwinnett mobile recreation program.

The donation will enhance neighborhood Play Days with new recreation equipment, healthy snacks and take-home wellness kits while helping bring safe and accessible wellness activities directly into communities.

CIDs partner with County for Flock cameras

Four community improvement districts – Gateway85, Sugarloaf, Gwinnett Place and Evermore – have entered into five-year intergovernmental agreements with Gwinnett County to expand the use of Flock Safety camera technology in their respective areas.

Flock cameras provide real-time license plate recognition and motion detection that integrates with the County’s Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center. This technology has helped officers recover more than 800 stolen vehicles and locate over 800 wanted individuals since 2020.

Under the agreements, Gwinnett will cover 40% of the annual cost, with capped contributions as follows:

  • Gateway85: 120 cameras, up to $120,000/year
  • Sugarloaf: 35 cameras, up to $35,000/year
  • Gwinnett Place: 65 cameras, up to $65,000/year
  • Evermore: 23 cameras, up to $23,000/year

More than 1,000 Flock cameras are currently used across public and private sectors in the county. The cameras contributed to over 1,500 incident reports in 2024 alone.

Contract approved for Community Resource Center signage

This year, Gwinnett County officially rebranded its OneStop facilities as Community Resource Centers to provide accessible and inclusive services to residents across the County.

To reflect the rebrand, the Board approved a contract with United Signs, LLC for $198,000. The updated signs will be located at the centers in Buford, Snellville and Norcross. The signs will help with consistency in the County’s branding while making it easier for residents to identify and access services.

Contract awarded for bridge replacement

The bridge over Bromolow Creek Tributary on Ingram Road, originally built in 1962, will be replaced through a $2.6 million design/build contract awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc.

The project is funded through the 2023 SPLOST program and will include both engineering and construction.
