DULUTH APARTMENT FIRE DISPLACES THIRTEEN PEOPLE ON CHRISTMAS DAY

(Duluth, Ga., Dec. 25, 2025) - Firefighters were called to an apartment fire on Pleasant Hill Road on Thursday afternoon. At 2:14 p.m., fire crews responded to reports about a fire at the MAA Pleasant Hill Apartments, located at 2500 Pleasant Hill Road. The caller reported that something was on fire on a balcony and that people were leaving the building.

Firefighters arrived and saw fire coming from a second-floor balcony. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading. Two apartments were severely damaged by fire and water. Nearby apartment buildings were not damaged. Everyone exited the building safely. No injuries were reported in connection with this fire. Firefighters remained on scene to ensure the fire was fully out.

One resident said they were cooking food on the balcony when the fire started. They tried to put it out, but the fire grew, so they evacuated the area. Smoke alarms were working and sounded during the fire. The fire displaced ten adults and three children, who are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross and apartment management. Firefighters on the scene said the fire was accidental. Fire officials remind residents that cooking should never be done on apartment balconies and that they should always have working smoke alarms in the home.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 4-Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1-Squad, 1-Rescue, 1-Med Units, 3-Command Staff Vehicles, and 1-Air & Light.
