WEEKEND HOUSE FIRE CLAIMS A LIFE IN SNELLVILLE
(Snellville, Ga., Dec. 14, 2025) – Firefighters responded at 1:04 a.m. to reports of a house fire at the 3000 block of Jonathan Court in Snellville. The 911 caller advised that the neighbor’s house was on fire, and his wife was still inside the home.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a working fire at a two-story split-level residence with reports of a female still inside the home. While investigating, firefighters found heavy fire in the garage that extended into the attic. Firefighters encountered severely cluttered living conditions that posed safety concerns for the crews searching the home. The search crew attempted entry through the front door initially, but due to partial collapse in that area of the home, they backed out and attempted re-entry through the rear of the house. Firefighters searching the home, found one deceased female in the bathroom of the home. Meanwhile, additional fire crews deployed four hose lines to extinguish the flames at approximately 1:42 a.m. To ensure firefighters had a second means of egress, firefighters used a chainsaw to open a window that was boarded up on the front of the home. The house sustained extensive fire damage to the garage, second floor, and attic; deeming the home a total loss. Extensive water and smoke damage was found throughout the main living area. Medical crews on the scene were utilized to rehab all firefighters. No additional injuries were found on the scene. A Fire Chaplain was requested to respond to the scene to provide support to fire personnel.
There were two occupants who were home at the time of the incident. The husband stated they were sleeping, heard a smoke alarm, and went downstairs to investigate when he noticed fire in the garage. He then evacuated the home, yelling to his wife to get out of the house. He attempted to extinguish the fire in the garage when he realized his wife was still in the house. He then ran to the neighbor’s house to call 911. Smoke alarms were present at the time of the fire. Two adults were affected and displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was requested by the homeowner.
A Fire Investigator responded to the scene for origin and fire cause. Fire Investigators found the origin in the garage, with the cause as undetermined.
