Congratulations to Gwinnett County Public Schools, winner of the 2010 Broad Prize, the largest education award in the country. School officials accepted the award on October 19 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
The Broad Prize, awarded by the Eli and Edythe Broad foundation, honors five large urban school districts that demonstrate the strongest student achievement and improvement while narrowing achievement gaps between income and ethnic groups. The winner receives $1 million to fund scholarships for graduating seniors. Gwinnett County Public Schools was selected among four other finalists for the award—Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina, Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, and the Socorro Independent School District and Ysleta Independent School District in Texas. Gwinnett County was a Broad Prize finalist in 2009 and received $250,000 in scholarship funds.
