Sales tax holiday saves water, energy and money

There will be no state sales tax October 1-4 on products labeled WaterSense or Energy Star priced under $1,500. The annual promotion by the Georgia Department of Revenue is designed to help homeowners reduce their consumption of water and energy.

WaterSense-certified toilets and sink faucets can save up to 20 percent on water use. An additional rebate of up to $100 per toilet is also available if it replaces one installed before 1993. Toilets use 15 percent of the water in an average home and homes use about half of all drinking water in metro Atlanta.

Products with an Energy Star logo are certified to use less electrical or other energy than similar comparable products. Eligible products include air conditioners, ceiling fans, dishwashers, fluorescent light bulbs, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, programmable thermostats, clothes washers, doors and windows.

To qualify for the sales tax holiday, purchases must be intended for personal, non-commercial use. Online purchases made during the sales tax holiday and delivered to a Georgia address are eligible for the sales tax exemption.
