Trash Service Continues Under Old System - Update
As a result of the December 2008 court order that enjoined the County from implementing a new solid waste ordinance and program, the service agreements for the existing residential and commercial trash service providers were extended for 120 days. The extensions were set to expire on April 30, 2009. At its meeting on April 21, 2009, the Board of Commissioners approved new service agreements with the trash service providers for the period May 1 through December 31, 2009. All nine of the current residential service providers will continue, although there have been some requested service area adjustments. An updated list may be viewed by clicking on More.
Although the County was enjoined from implementing the new solid waste ordinance that was to be effective January 1, 2009, the update to the Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) that was approved by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and adopted by the Board of Commissioners on April 22, 2008 remains in effect and the County continues to be in compliance with the Georgia Solid Waste Management Act. A copy of the SWMP is available for viewing or downloading by clicking here. More...
