Update #1, 03/08/2020: The victim has been identified as Jesse Towler (Dacula).  Joey Perry (age 32) has been charged with Reckless Conduct and Involuntary Manslaughter.  He is currently incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Jail. 

This incident occurred at Mr. Perry’s residence during a gathering with invited guests.  He went outside to break up a physical altercation by firing a single shot from his handgun.  The bullet struck Jesse Towler in the torso. 

Mr. Towler was transported by ambulance to Northside Gwinnett Hospital in critical condition.  He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. 

 Original, 03/08/2020:

 (Dacula, Georgia)  The GCPD Homicide Unit is currently investigating the death of a 35 year old male that occurred early Sunday morning.

Around 1:55 AM, officer assigned to the East Precinct responded to person shot call at 2526 Kachina Trail, Dacula.  The victim was found by friends and family in front of the residence.  The group was gathered together at the residence after attending a funeral earlier in the day.  The victim went outside and had an altercation that resulted in him being shot in the chest.  Detectives are conducting interviews to gather more information. 

When officers arrived, aid was rendered and the victim was transported to the hospital by the Gwinnett County Fire Department.  The victim died at the hospital.  The victim’s identification is being held at this time.
