Partners and Rescue Groups
Collaborations with rescue groups and other partners are valuable in ensuring success with ongoing animal welfare efforts. Licensed rescues and partners who are interested in working with Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement should email AnimalWelfare@GwinnettCounty.com or call 770.339.3200 to schedule an appointment with shelter staff.
The shelter is proud to partner with many veterinarian practices and clinics throughout Gwinnett County to offer limited discounts for newly adopted shelter pets. New pet parents can pick up a list of participating partners at the front counter.
Animal Welfare currently maintains an annual contract with Planned PEThood of Georgia to provide all kennel veterinary services for the animals in our care. This care includes intake exams and evaluations, heartworm testing and treatment for canines, and combo testing and treatment for felines (upon adoption or rescue commitment), follow-up care as needed, and spay/neuter services for all animals prior to adoption or rescue. Additional partnerships with the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, in conjunction with the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and other agencies, provides needed on-site medical attention as well as hands-on training for students in these programs. A partnership with the Veterinary Assistant Degree Program at Gwinnett Technical College also provides on-site training for their students.
Low cost spay/neuter and vaccine programs
Spaying or neutering animals helps reduce pet overpopulation and helps pets stay healthier. There are thousands of unwanted animals in Gwinnett County that are not spayed or neutered that continue to reproduce, contributing to pet overpopulation. Be a responsible pet owner; have your pet spayed or neutered and maintain vaccinations each year. Please ask our staff if any programs for assistance are currently available.
Animal Welfare partners with several organizations for participation and community outreach at events which offer low cost vaccination clinics. Call 770.339.3200 for information on upcoming clinics.
