Office of the Chief
The Office of the Chief includes the Chief of Police and the Chief of Staff and is responsible for facilitating the delivery of professional police services to the residents of Gwinnett County. Additional responsibilities include planning and research, public records, and public information. The Office of the Chief consists of the following:
The Chief of Staff will oversee the Public Information Office. The Chief of Staff or their designee will serve as the promotional coordinator. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will be responsible for coordinating with the Law Department on all issues regarding lawsuits, legal opinions, and human resources issues requiring legal guidance. All requests for legal opinions must be forwarded through the Office of the Chief. The Chief of Staff or their designee is responsible for coordinating the Department’s goals and objectives, goals evaluation and Multi-year Plan review.
Public Information
The Public Information Officers (PIO) serves as the point of contact for news media representative and assists news personnel in covering routine news stories and more complicated stories such as those at the scene of major accidents. This requires being available for on-call responses to the news media, preparing and distributing news releases, and arranging news conferences. The PIO must also coordinate and authorize information about victims, witnesses, suspects, and information concerning confidential investigations and operations at the direction of the Chief of Police. The PIO is responsible for developing procedures for releasing information when other public service agencies are involved.
