AFTERNOON FIRE DESTROYS DACULA HOME

(Dacula, Ga., May. 23, 2025) - At 11:09 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a house fire on the 1100 block of Evergreen Oak Way NE in Dacula. The caller reported observing a fire on the back deck of a neighbor’s house that was spreading up the back wall.

Firefighters arrived at 11:12 a.m. and reported flames from the attic space rapidly spreading to the second level of a two-story, single-family dwelling on a slab. Units rapidly deployed multiple handlines and streams from a ladder truck to attack the fire. Firefighters gained control of the fire at 11:34 a.m. Jackson EMC and Buford Gas disconnected utility service at the residence. Due to post-incident structural collapse concerns, the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources responded to the scene with demolition equipment.

No injuries were reported at this incident, and no one was home when the fire started. The homeowner told firefighters he was the last to leave the residence at 10:00 this morning. He was returning from an errand with his family when he observed the firefighters trying to save his home. A family of two adults and three children has declined Red Cross assistance and will be staying with family members during their recovery. Several family pets perished during the fire. Firefighters on the scene said that the cause of this accidental fire was related to discarded smoking materials.
