FIREFIGHTERS ENCOUNTER A BLAZE THAT CLAIMS A LIFE

(Dacula, Ga., Jan. 27, 2025) – Firefighters responded at 5:04 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, to a report of a house fire on the 2700 block of Freeman Mill Road in Dacula. The 911 caller advised that their daughter’s house was on fire. The caller advised that there were people outside the home. A second 911 caller advised that there was a large fire and that they could see it from their house on Eastside Drive.

Upon arrival at 5:12 a.m., fire crews found a large fire in an 800-square-foot structure with multiple additions behind a residential home. Firefighters could not enter the structure and search for victims due to the fire’s intensity and partial collapse. Firefighters immediately connected to a nearby fire hydrant and began flowing water on the structure while other fire crews deployed numerous hose lines. Crews located one victim who was deceased in the structure. The structure sustained extensive fire damage. Additional responders on the scene included a Gwinnett County Police Chaplain, a Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Chaplain, and the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office. No other injuries were reported in this incident.

Fire Investigators at the scene stated the cause of this fire is under investigation. The victim’s body has been turned over to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.
