THREE CHILDREN HOSPITALIZED AFTER ESCAPING A HOUSE FIRE

(Norcross, Ga., Feb. 5, 2025) – Firefighters responded on February 4, 2025, at 7:40 p.m. to an occupant’s report of a house fire on the 6100 block of Wandering Way in Norcross. The 911 caller advised that flames were coming out of the front door. The caller also advised everyone was out of the home.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a working fire at a single-family, two-story, split-foyer residence. While investigating, firefighters found a large fire on the front and back side of the house that extended throughout the home. Firefighters deployed three hose lines to extinguish the flames; the fire under control at 8:01 p.m. Firefighters on the scene encountered a stairwell that was compromised and failed due to fire damage. The house sustained extensive fire damage to the main living space, kitchen, second-floor bedrooms, and attic space. Heavy smoke and water damage were found throughout the home. One dog was found outside the home in the backyard and was reunited with the owner. Three medical crews on the scene were utilized to rehab all firefighters and transport multiple patients. Three children were transported to local hospitals and one adult was treated and released by medical crews at the scene. No other injuries were found on the scene.

Six occupants were home at the time of the incident and were able to escape the flames prior to the firefighter’s arrival. The occupants stated they had been cooking earlier but were unsure what caused the fire. There were no working smoke alarms inside the home at the time of the fire. Four adults, three children, and one dog were affected due to the fire. The American Red Cross was requested by the homeowner.

Fire Investigators responded to the scene for origin and determination. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
