FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES WEEKEND WINTER WEATHER ACTIVITY

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 28, 2022) - The following is a brief synopsis of weather-related incidents mitigated from Friday, December 23, 2022, thru Monday, December 26, 2022, by Fire and Emergency Services personnel.  It does not include all calls for the time period. 

On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 21, The National Weather Service began issuing forecasts of extremely cold arctic air moving southward with an impact to much of the country. Temperatures were predicted to remain at or below freezing between 7:00 a.m. Friday morning to 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. During this 96-hour period, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services responded to 2067 incidents. No additional significant incidents or injuries were reported to the Fire-PIO.

      • Two minor injuries released at the scene

CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM ACTIVATIONS: 19 incident responses

 

CAVE-IN/STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE: 9 incident responses

  • Included incidents involving water leaks causing collapses of sheetrock, no injuries reported.

 

TREE ON A BUILDING: 12 incident responses

  • No injuries reported

 

WATER IN A BUILDING: 485 incident responses

 

POWER LINE DOWN: 20 incident responses

 

GENERAL PUBLIC ASSIST: 155 incident responses

 

WEATHER RELATED MEDICAL EMERGENCIES: 8 incident responses
