GAS LEAK SHUTS DOWN ROCKBRIDGE ROAD IN NORCROSS

(Norcross, Ga., Oct. 6, 2020) – A natural gas leak outside that temporarily closed part of Rockbridge Road, NW in unincorporated Norcross was brought under control at 12:42 p.m. An emergency crew from Atlanta Gas Light was able to stop the escaping gas vapors by capping the ruptured line.

A construction crew struck the three-inch service line while digging underground around 10:03 a.m. Firefighters and hazmat technicians monitored gas reading in the area and deployed a hose line on the ground to protect gas company workers and nearby exposures. As a precaution, two houses located in close proximity were sheltered-in-place until the leak was brought under control. There were no injuries and no evacuations reported.

Rockbridge Road, between Pirkle Road and Sherwood Drive, was temporarily closed due to the leak. The roadway reopened at 12:52 p.m. The scene was turned over to Atlanta Gas Light to make repairs on the damaged gas line.
