LOG PILE FIRE CLOSES BUFORD HIGHWAY IN SUWANEE

(Suwanee, Ga., May 9, 2022) – Firefighters responded at 8:02 P.M. this evening to a report of a woods fire near the intersection of Buford Highway and Suwanee Dam Road NW in Suwanee. The caller to 911 stated that there was a log pile on fire. 

Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a log pile that measured 80 feet long and 20 feet wide with flames extending 30 feet into the air. Firefighters assumed a defensive mode of attack, deploying a deck gun, Blitzfire monitor, and multiple attack lines to suppress the flames. The closest water supply was a hydrant located on the opposite side of Buford Highway. Suwanee Police assisted incident command by closing Buford Highway from Cherokee Trail NW and Suwanee Dam Road NW for water supply operations. Fire crews deployed 1000 feet of five-inch hose across Buford Highway. Buford Highway was reopened at 10:15 P.M. Fire crews will be remaining on the scene for several more hours suppressing deep-seated hot spots within the log pile. There were no injuries reported during this incident and no structures were damaged. No residents were displaced by the fire.

Firefighters were unable to determine the cause of the fire. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
