EARLY MORNING FIRE DISPLACES FAMILIES IN PEACHTREE CORNERS

(Peachtree Corners, May 23, 2023) - At 6:26 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire at 3500 Park Lake Lane NW in Peachtree Corners, The Lakeside Retreat at Peachtree Corners Apartments. The caller to 911 reported that there was a fire in her bedroom.

Firefighters arrived at 6:31 a.m. to find smoke showing from a window on the Alpha side of a two-story, multi-family dwelling. Firefighters deployed several fire hoses as search teams began evacuating the building of all occupants. Crews encountered flames in an apartment bedroom on the second floor and discovered some fire had extended into the common attic space. While firefighters battled the flames, search teams confirmed that all residents had safely escaped; however, teams did find a deceased dog. Firefighters brought the flames under control at 6:55 a.m. Once the fire was out, firefighters ventilated the structure using positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fans. In addition, they monitored atmospheric conditions for toxic gases. Atlanta Gas Light and Georgia Power secured utility service to the building.

The resident stated that she came home from running an errand to find her apartment filled with smoke. She attempted to gather her two dogs but could only find one of them before being forced to escape. EMS treated and released one adult patient on the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. All crews rotated through rehab and decon before returning to service. Extensive smoke and water damage in the building caused the displacement of families living in eight apartment units. Firefighters worked with apartment management to secure shelter for those residents affected. Fire investigators said the cause of this fire was undetermined.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 4- Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1- Squad, 1-Med Unit, 1-Rescue, 2- Command Staff Units, 1- Air and Light Unit, and 1- Fire Investigator.
