(Norcross, Ga., June 16, 2019) – Firefighters responded at 4:45am to a report of a vehicle injury accident on I-85 S/B, south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard near Norcross. The caller advised that a tractor trailer and a smaller cargo truck were involved. They also stated that the vehicles were catching on fire. Crews arrived at 4:50am to find heavy flames showing from the wreckage. Both drivers were already out of the trucks when the fire department arrived. Firefighters began to attack the flames as paramedics assessed the drivers. One driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance with a minor injury and the other driver was evaluated and released at the scene for minor injury complaints. There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries reported. All lanes of 85 S/B between JCB and Pleasantdale Road were shut down due to the accident and debris in the roadway. Heavy wreckers were requested to clear the interstate. Gwinnett Police, Gwinnett Fire, DeKalb Fire, GADOT, and DOT/HERO responded to the scene.
