Aggravated Assault and Fatality Collision

(Atlanta, Georgia)  At approximately 12:40pm officers from the West Precinct responded to Winters Chapel Road at its intersection with Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in reference to a wreck with injuries.  When officers arrived they learned that a red pickup truck had collided with a white sedan.  The driver of the white sedan sustained serious injuries and died as a result of those injuries.  The Accident Investigation Unit was requested to the scene to investigate.  Investigators spoke to the driver of the red pickup truck and learned that he was giving someone a ride from a nearby location when he had an altercation with occupants in a black SUV.  At some point during the altercation at least of the occupants in the SUV produced a gun and shots were fired.  The driver of the red pickup truck fled the scene and traveled south on the PIB access road.  He ran the red light at the intersection and collided with the white sedan.  The red pickup truck had two other occupants, an adult female and a young juvenile.  The adult female fled the collision scene prior to police arrival.  The juvenile was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives were contacted in reference to the reported assault and the Crime Scene Unit was requested to process the scene.  The driver of the red pickup truck was ultimately arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide First Degree.  The black SUV fled the scene prior to police arrival as well.  Identities of the involved parties are being withheld due to the active investigation and pending notification.  The reports for these incidents are not ready for release at this time.
