DOUBLE FATALITY COLLISION BEING INVESTIGATED IN NORCROSS

(Norcross, Ga., May 20, 2024) – The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle accident that left two people deceased and two severely injured in unincorporated Norcross.

Just after 1:30 p.m. on May 19, officers from the West Precinct responded to a serious injury traffic accident at Buford Highway and South Peachtree Street. According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a red Volvo XC60 attempted to turn right from South Peachtree Street onto Buford Highway, turning in front of a black Toyota Sienna and causing a collision. Due to the severity of the injuries, officers requested the Accident Investigation Unit. Gwinnett County Fire Personnel transported four people to local hospitals, with two in critical condition.

The driver and passenger of the Volvo both died at the hospital. The driver’s name is Jill Swenson (age 73, Norcross), and the passenger’s name is William Brown (age 74, Norcross). Notifications were made to their family by the hospital staff. The driver and the passenger of the Toyota remained at the hospital for further treatment of their injuries.

The factors leading to the collision are still being investigated.
