COMMISSIONER BEN KU ELECTED MEMBER-AT-LARGE FOR NATIONAL LGBTQIA+ COMMITTEE
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 4, 2025) –District 2 Commissioner Ben Ku has been elected to serve as Member-at-Large on the National Association of Counties’ LGBTQIA+ Leadership Committee, a national platform dedicated to advancing equality and representation in local government.
Commissioner Ku, Georgia’s first and only openly gay county commissioner, has long championed diversity, equity and inclusion in the country’s most diverse County.
As the senior member of the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners, this new role builds on the work he’s already doing to shape inclusive policy and amplify representation—locally and across the country.
“This opportunity allows me to amplify the work we’re already doing in Gwinnett and take that to a national stage,” said Ku. “Our communities deserve more than representation. They deserve innovation, visibility and bold leadership that unapologetically reflects who we are.”
Ku brings a background in marketing, communication and strategy to the committee. He plans to focus on strengthening local engagement, building national visibility for LGBTQIA+ leaders in government and working with key partners like the Human Rights Campaign to implement meaningful changes.
“As Member-at-Large, I’ll bring strategy, creativity and a relentless drive to elevate our voice nationally, build deeper local connections and make sure LGBTQ+ leaders aren’t just included, they’re indispensable,” Ku added.
