COUNTY STATEMENT REGARDING SEVERE WEATHER EVENT
Media partners, please see the below statement regarding severe weather preparation in Gwinnett:
“The County’s decisions regarding office closures were made with the safety of employees and residents in mind while maintaining essential services. Based on the information available at the time and evolving weather conditions, a measured approach was taken.
“In preparation for the snowfall, the County treated roads with brine on Monday and Tuesday. After the snowfall, crews applied a mixture of salt, sand, and calcium to improve road conditions. However, the combination of heavy traffic and extremely low temperatures presented challenges for treatment efforts. Despite these challenges, maintenance crews have been working around the clock to address areas of concern. Significant progress has been made, with the vast majority of roads now cleared, thanks to hard work, abundant sunshine and temperatures near or slightly above freezing. Trouble spots will likely remain in some limited areas until the temperature recovers on Thursday.
“Weather conditions can change unexpectedly, and in this case, snowfall arrived later in the day, impacting travel. We value feedback as we continually assess and refine our response strategies for future winter weather events.”
