COUNTY TO SHIFT TRAFFIC ON HARBINS ROAD BRIDGE OVER SR 316 ON TUESDAY NIGHT

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 13, 2022) – Drivers will get a new view of the progress made on the Harbins Road interchange at SR 316 when traffic shifts to a new alignment on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Message boards and flaggers will direct drivers onto the new permanent alignment after the evening rush hour on Tuesday.

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc., began construction of the grade-separated interchange and five-lane bridge in fall 2019. The project is funded by the 2017 SPLOST program.

The new bridge will include dual westbound left-turn lanes, a single eastbound turn lane and through lanes. The new interchange will have full access ramps eastbound and westbound, as well as a collector-distributor road with direct access to Sugarloaf Parkway. The project also includes traffic signal upgrades, sidewalks, curb and gutter and retaining walls.

On Tuesday, overnight flagging operators will help drivers with the new traffic pattern. Drivers will be directed onto the new bridge overpass across SR316/University Parkway during the traffic shift. There will be a temporary traffic signal activated on Harbins Road at the westbound off-ramp intersection until the old Harbins Road detour route is demolished and the new interchange ramp connections are constructed.

Please drive carefully while navigating the new interchange. For more information, contact the Gwinnett Department of Transportation at 770.822.7400.
