Bulky Items and White Goods
Customers must notify their designated hauler to schedule pickup of a bulky item or white good during weekdays from 8:00am to 5:00pm. There is no additional fee. Bulky items may include box springs, mattresses, and furniture. White goods may include appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, washers, and dryers.
Guidelines for proper disposal of white goods:
- Empty all appliances of food and liquids,
- Remove doors from refrigerators and freezers, and
- Have freon gas removed and have refrigerator tagged by certified technician.
Backdoor Service
Backdoor service is a convenience provided to the households of persons who are physically unable to place their carts curbside. Please contact your hauler for further information if you or someone you know would benefit from backdoor service.
Holiday Collection Schedule
Trash and recycling collection will remain the same on holidays except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Haulers are not required to collect or maintain office hours on these holidays. Collections will be made the day following these holidays, and subsequent collection during the holiday week will take place on the day after the normal collection day. For more information, residents can contact their hauler or call the Solid Waste Management Call Center at 770.822.7141.
New Construction
Gwinnett County requires that contractors pay a Residential Service Fee to the County for collection, transportation, and disposal or processing of residential municipal solid waste, residential recovered materials, bulky waste, and/or white goods. A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) will be issued by Planning and Development after the Residential Service Fee has been paid and all other permit requirements have been met.
Payments may be made at the Solid Waste office located at 446 West Crogan Street, Suite 100, in Lawrenceville by check, cash, or credit card or by calling 770.822.7141 to pay by credit card.
Rates and Billing
The senior discount for those 62 and over is 25 percent of the hauler paid rate, which reduces fees for seniors to $14.11 per month. If you are not currently receiving the senior discount on your solid waste fee, an application and affidavit form must be submitted to Solid Waste Management located at 446 West Crogan Street, Suite 100, in Lawrenceville. To access the form, click here. You may also contact the Solid Waste Management office at 770.822.7141.
Curbside Guidelines
Trash and recyclables will be picked up between 7:00am and 6:30pm, Monday through Friday. Customers should place the provided trash carts and recycling carts curbside no earlier than 3:30pm the day before collection day but prior to 7:00am on collection day. Emptied carts must be removed no later than the day following collection day.
Trash Cart Placement
- Trash carts should be placed within three feet of the curb or the edge of the street and at least three feet away from any obstacles, preferably on the opposite side of the driveway from the mailbox.
- The lid opening should face the street.
- The lid should be closed.
*Please note that trash outside of the cart will not be collected unless previously arranged with your hauler.
Recyclables
Recyclable items can be placed in another container at no extra charge as long as the container is clearly marked "recyclables." Haulers will not collect recyclables placed in plastic bags.
