Backflow Prevention provides protection of the drinking water system from contaminates and pollutants that can come from cross connections and changes in the hydraulic conditions within the system.

The Backflow Prevention section oversees the specifications for vault (meter pits) and backflow installation in Gwinnett County. Additionally, Backflow Prevention coordinates activities with Water & Sewer Review and the Department of Planning & Development to make sure contractors are following correct installation procedures and development requirements. Requirements For Vault and Backflow Installation in Gwinnett County
  1. No work to begin without obtaining a Utility Construction permit from the Department of Planning and Development, Water and Sewer Plan Review Section.
  2. The inspector Must be given 48 hour notice prior to starting Any installation.
  3. When constructing a vault, refer to the following schematics.
