Darrell Johnson has been a dedicated Gwinnett County employee for 38 years, beginning his career as a police officer in 1987. In 1988, he transferred to the Department of Corrections, where he was promoted to Sergeant in 1989 and to Lieutenant in 1992. He worked in the Support Services Division for 18 years as the Care and Treatment Supervisor.
In 2007, Darrell was appointed Captain/Accreditation Project Manager, and in 2009, he was promoted to Captain of Security and Deputy Warden of Facility Operations. He was appointed Interim Warden in 2013 and became the official Warden for the Gwinnett County Department of Corrections in 2014.
Darrell holds a master’s degree in public administration from Brenau College and a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the College of the Ozarks. He is a Certified Corrections Manager through the American Correctional Association. His training includes the Gwinnett County Management Development Program (1994), the Gwinnett County Executive Drive Program (2007), and the Gwinnett County Internal Management Academy (2022).
