Overview

The Scott Riner’s Prison Awareness Program is a project fueled by the passion of our esteemed and dearly missed hero, Correctional Officer Scott Riner. Scott was dedicated to helping youth in our community. Therefore, this program has been reinstated to offer comprehensive support and intervention strategies to assist teenagers facing behavioral, emotional, or social challenges. Our goal is to address underlying issues and empower teens to make positive choices for their future. This is done by interacting with County and State sentenced offenders along with the correctional staff.

Vision

Our vision is to be a beacon of hope for troubled teens and parents, fostering an environment where each teen discovers their inner strengths, overcomes challenges, and embarks on a journey of positive self-discovery. We aspire to be a catalyst for constructive transformation, instilling resilience, confidence, and a sense of purpose in every teen we serve. This is done by allowing the teens to interact with County and State sentenced offenders, becoming educated on how these offenders made some of the same mistakes the teens are making now, and the consequences to those same mistakes. The correctional staff also offers the parents recommendations to various resources to continue with molding their children into productive and thriving adults.

Specifications of Program

Youth ages 13 to 17 are eligible for the Scott Riner’s Prison Awareness Program if:

• They are exhibiting behavioral issues at home, in school, or are currently involved with the juvenile and/or criminal justice system
• They have experienced suspension and/or expulsion
• They exhibit risky behavior such as any dealings with drugs/alcohol
• They exhibit abusive behavior towards parents, guardians, or adults in authority
