The Criminal Investigations Section includes ten specialized units that handle a wide range of cases, including burglaries, pawn enforcement, cold cases, fraud and computer crimes, general property crimes, vehicle and metal theft, homicides, robberies, and crimes involving vulnerable victims. Each unit focuses on specific types of investigations to ensure thorough and effective case work.

Property and fraud cases are managed by units such as Burglary, Cold Case, Electronic and Financial Crimes, General Investigations, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Metal Theft, while crimes against persons are handled by the Homicide, Robbery, and Special Victims Units. Together, these units investigate everything from thefts and financial crimes to homicides, robberies, child and elder abuse, and Internet Crimes Against Children, often working closely with partner agencies to support victims and bring cases to resolution.

The Special Investigations Section enforces local ordinances and state laws related to organized crime, narcotics, vice activity, and alcoholic beverage sales. It is comprised of six units: Alcohol and Vice, Crime and Intelligence Analysis, Parcel Interdiction, Technical/Intelligence Support, Gang Task Force, and Narcotics. The Crime and Intelligence Analysis Unit collects and analyzes data to identify crime patterns, providing intelligence to detectives and coordinating information with other law enforcement agencies. The Parcel Interdiction Team focuses on intercepting illegal drug shipments and recovering money lost to elder fraud schemes, returning funds to victims. The Technical/Intelligence Support Unit gathers information on individuals or groups to anticipate or monitor criminal activity and assists both the section’s units and other agencies, including supporting asset forfeiture proceedings in court.

The Gang Task Force investigates gang activity and provides intelligence for related cases, such as homicides, robberies, assaults, and burglaries. The Narcotics Unit focuses on violations of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, conducting investigations of street-level sales, tip line complaints, and long-term dealer operations.
