  • GWINNETT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE JAIL INTELLIGENCE UNIT APPREHENDS FOUR SUSPECTS IN METHAMPHETAMINE CASE

    (Gwinnett County, GA, March 18, 2024) – The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring the security of our facility. On January 17, 2024, a substance suspected to be methamphetamine was located during a routine cell search inside of the Gwinnett County Jail. Our Jail Intelligence Unit was notified and immediately launched an official investigation. In total, investigators recovered six grams of methamphetamine that were prepackaged into 10 small parcels for the purpose of distribution.

  • FUGITIVE UNIT APPREHENDS SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL SCHOOL INCIDENTS

    (Gwinnett County, GA, August 4, 2023) – On Thursday, August 3, 2023, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office regarding two males that were identified as non-students entering Jackson County High School. After contact was made with the two males, they left the building. Subsequently, the two males were involved in an incident in Barrow County that resulted in a hard lockdown in the Barrow County School System. Information obtained on social media showed one of the suspects in possession of a firearm. Based upon the information received, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit initiated an investigation that led to the apprehensions of Christian Lebron Williams and Lamonte Dianell Smith. Additionally, during the course of the investigation, it was determined that Christian Lebron Williams had additional outstanding warrants related to firearms charges for a May 2023 incident.

He established the Community Outreach Section to further develop community-based strategies by utilizing restorative justice principles to enhance economic opportunity, create relationships, and strengthen local neighborhoods. Sheriff Taylor has focused on a dynamic framework for quality growth and development through community events. This year, more than 4,000 vehicles were met by 216 community volunteers and 24 deputies.

    (Gwinnett County, Ga., May 24, 2022) – The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office has 44 in custody from Operation Street Sweeper. This operation is our second crime suppression effort within 2022. It consisted of over 100 deputies and four crime analysts totaling over 2,784 staffing hours. During Operation Street Sweeper, 257 warrants were attempted, 90 warrants served, and 44 individuals in custody in only three days. Their charges varied from failure to appear to aggravated assault. Deputies recovered 2 stolen weapons.

  • GWINNETT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE LOCATES FUGITIVE WANTED FOR COMPUTER PORNOGRAPHY

    (Gwinnett County, G.A., April 27, 2022) – The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit has Thomas George Kaercher in custody for multiple internet crimes against children. He is charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Aggravated Child Molestation (x2), Electronically Furnishing Obscene Material to Minors, Computer Pornography, and Obscene Internet Contact with a Child. The original incident occurred in 2020, and the Gwinnett County Police Department is the lead investigating agency. Kaercher failed to appear before the Judge on his scheduled court date; consequently, a warrant was issued for his arrest. Our investigators located him in Savannah, Georgia. The Chatham County Police Department assisted with extraditing him to Gwinnett County. He is housed in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.

  • GWINNETT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE APPREHENDS ONE FOR AGGRAVATED CHILD MOLESTATION

    (Lawrenceville, GA,. April 25, 2022) – The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit has one in custody for sex crimes against children. Alberto Luna Alvarez is charged with Aggravated Child Molestation by Sodomy (x2), Child Molestation (x2), and had an outstanding bench warrant. Lawrenceville Police Department swore out the warrants for his arrest after the victim came forward regarding the recurring crime in November 2021. Through the course of the investigation, investigators discovered that Alvarez fled from Georgia to Texas. Upon his return to Georgia, he was apprehended. He is housed in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
