Your Pennies for Gwinnett’s Cities

Cities receive a portion of SPLOST proceeds for municipal projects. While other municipalities across Georgia began sharing in county SPLOST revenues following a change in state law in 2005, Gwinnett County began sharing the penny sales tax with its city governments in 2001.

2001 SPLOST program: Gwinnett cities received approximately $22 million.

2005 SPLOST program: Gwinnett cities received approximately $93.7 million.

2009 SPLOST program: Gwinnett cities received $104.9 million.

2014 SPLOST program: Gwinnett cities anticipate receiving approximately $92.9 million.

Officials from Gwinnett County and the cities signed an agreement in August 2013 that spells out, among other things, how proceeds from the 2014 SPLOST program are to be distributed. The cities will share 21.1 percent of the collections while the County will receive 78.9 percent. Gwinnett County is dedicating 70 percent of its share of the 2014 SPLOST to transportation, including $25 million for joint city/county projects.

For more information about city SPLOST projects, view the twice yearly presentations shared with the Citizen Review Committee.
