COVID-19 Pandemic Response

Our staff is committed to providing uninterrupted service and response to the public. The Gwinnett Assessor's Office lobby remains closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, however all services are available by walk up video conference kiosks located outside of our lobby, or by phone from 8:00am to 5:00pm weekdays, except during County holidays. You can also reach us  by email. Please allow up to 3 business days for a response to email. Online self-service is also available to do property research, get copies of annual notices of assessment, check the status of an appeal already filed, or to view annual notices of assessment that were returned as undeliverable.

Document Delivery

Documents may be filed by mail, or by placing in the drop box located outside of the Assessors’ Office at the Gwinnett Justice and Adminstrative Center. It is highly recommended that any official and time sensitive paperwork you wish to file with the Board of Assessors’ be submitted with a USPS or other mail courier service that includes certifying the mail and delivery date or proof of delivery. Emailing documents is generally acceptable by State Law for documents that do not require proof of property ownership or notarization at the time of delivery. When emailing documents, it is best, though not required, to have already established a contact in our office.

2020 Property Appeals

Annual Notices of Assessment were mailed on May 1, 2020 and May 18, 2020 to all owners of taxable property, including taxable personal property. The number of days to file an appeal of an annual assessment in Georgia is within 45 days of the date of the Board of Assessors’ mailing the annual notice of assessment to the last recorded address on file. On Monday, August 17, 2020, the Georgia Department of Revenue acted to extend property appeals through Thursday, August 27, 2020.  (Read More)

Tax Assessor's Office

The Gwinnett County Tax Assessor’s Office is committed to providing the highest level of customer service to all residents and customers requiring our assistance. Our responsibilities are to discover, list, value, and maintain countywide uniformity of property within the confines of Gwinnett County, ensuring that state laws and regulations are adhered to; to apply and oversee the appeal process as provided by state law; and to compile the annual Property Tax Digest for submission to the State Department of Revenue.

On January 6, 2021, the Board of Assessors voted to adopt safe practices in keeping with those established with State Magistrate Judicial Emergency Orders. During the time that the Chief Magistrate has restricted in-person hearings, all Tax Assessor hearings, including appeal related hearings, will be restricted to virtual hearings. For more information about the adopted policy, click here.

Public Notice to Property Owners and Occupants

In order to maintain accurate property assessments, the Board of Assessors and their delegated agents and representatives must conduct routine on-site reviews. All owners and occupants are hereby notified that all property in Gwinnett is subject to routine reviews, as permitted by law (see O.C.G.A. § 48-5-264.1 a). Such reviews may be prompted in various ways, including but not limited to: requests for a review by one or more property owners, notification of activity that may result in a value change (i.e. permitted and non-permitted work), notification that a property’s use may have changed from when it was previously assessed (i.e. zoning changes, uses inconsistent with filed covenants, etc.), appeals of county assessments, or requests for data correction.
