Personal Property Returns (Aircraft, Marine, and Business Inventory & Equipment)

If you own a business with furniture, fixtures, machinery, equipment, and/or inventory, an airplane, or a boat and/or motor as of January 1, you must file a return by April 1.  You are responsible for reporting all taxable personal property or penalties will be assessed. Filing your return electronically will be available beginning January 5.

To file your Personal Property Return electronically, you will need the e-File security number located on your Personal Property Return form mailed to you in January 2016. Step-by-step instructions are available for completing an online electronic Personal Property Return form.

If you have additional questions, please contact the Gwinnett County Assessor's office at 770.822.7220 or by email at Personal.Property@gwinnettcounty.com.

Important notice: If you are submitting your return by mail, metered mail will not be accepted as proof of a timely property tax return. Only the USPS cancellation stamp will be considered when determining if the return has been filed on time.

Personal Property (Aircraft, Marine, and Business Inventory & Equipment) Annual Notice of Assessment

Marine, aircraft, and tangible business inventory and equipment 2016 Annual Notice of Assessments will begin to be mailed in May 2016.

Georgia law requires that the County Board of Tax Assessors provide an Annual Notice of Assessment to the owner of taxable property. An Annual Notice of Assessment is not a tax bill. The notice informs the property owner of the current fair market value as calculated by the Board of Tax Assessors and the appraisal staff, as well as provides the property owner the assessed value (40 percent of the fair market value) of their property (O.C.G.A. 48-5-7). The annual property tax bill will be based on the assessed value (40 percent of the fair market value) unless subsequently adjusted following an appeal. The notice also includes estimated taxes that are based on the previous year's millage rate and the current year's value. The actual tax bill, which is usually issued in August, will be calculated on the millage rates set by the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education for 2015. Those rates are usually decided between June and July after the notice of assessment is issued. Because this is only an estimate, your actual tax bill may be more or less than this estimate. The estimate may not include all eligible exemptions, fees, i.e., stormwater, solid waste, or streetlights, which may appear on your tax bill.

Personal Property (marine, aircraft and tangible business inventory) 2016 assessment notices were mailed  May 16, 2016.
