LIGHTNING STRIKE CAUSE OF GARAGE FIRE

(Tucker, Ga., Apr. 28, 2026) – Firefighters responded at 6:41 a.m. to a 911 caller reporting a structure fire at the 400 block of Theresa Court in Tucker. The 911 caller advised that lightning struck the garage and now it’s on fire. The 911 caller advised dispatch that they were evacuating the home.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire involvement at single-family residence involving the detached garage. While investigating, firefighters encountered a fully involved garage on fire and utilized two hose lines to extinguish the flames. The garage sustained extensive fire damage to be deemed a total loss of the structure. No extension to any surrounding areas or to the home beside the garage. Medical crews on the scene were utilized for firefighter rehabilitation. There were no injuries on the scene.

The occupant in the home at the time of the incident stated they were in their home when they found smoke and flames coming from the garage during the thunderstorm this morning. The fire did not displace the homeowner, but one feline was unaccounted for and believed to be inside the garage at the time of the fire.

Firefighters on the scene found the fire to be accidental due to a lightning strike.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 3-Engines, 1-Ladder Truck, 1-Rescue, 1-Med Unit, 1-Command Staff Unit, and 1-Air and Light Unit.
