Apparent Homicide - UPDATE

(Friday, June 11th, 2010 @approximately 10:03 AM) The Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious activity near an apartment building within the Bridgewater Apartment complex located at 1500 Ridge Brook Trail.  There, the body of an apparent homicide victim was discovered.  This apartment complex is located within unincorporated Gwinnett County in an area associated with Duluth.  

Gwinnett County Police Officers responding to the report of suspicious activity discovered the body of an adult male, partially concealed within a landscaped area adjacent to building 800. Preliminary investigation has found that the deceased suffered at least one gunshot wound.  Gwinnett County Police Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were notified and responded to the scene.  With the assistance of with investigators from the Gwinnett County Medical Examiners Office and the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office the immediate scene was scrutinized and the immediate area searched for potential witnesses.  During the preliminary stages of this investigation, detectives did locate witnesses within the apartment complex that reported hearing gunshots erupt between the hours of 8 and 9 PM the previous evening.  A review of records found that the Gwinnett County Police Department did not receive any reports of gunshots in or around that complex on either date.  Detectives have conducted a number of interviews in an effort to determine the motive and causes underlying this apparent homicide.  At this time this incident appears to be a murder, the victim suffering at least one gunshot wound.  The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact manner and cause of the victim's death.  

The deceased is described as a black male in his late teens or early twenties.  His identity remains unconfirmed and is therefore being withheld until his family can be notified.  

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.  Gwinnett Police Homicide Detectives are requesting help from the public. Any persons with information about this incident, or knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the shooting of the deceased, or anyone witnessing potentially suspicious activity in or around the scene of this incident during the evening hours of Thursday, June 10th, are strongly encouraged to call Gwinnett County Police at 770-513-5300.  Information can also be relayed through Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips are welcome and relevant information provided could lead to a monetary reward of up to $2,000.

UPDATE 1 - Saturday, June 12th, 2010: 

The deceased has been identified as 19 year-old Deonte Moore of Norcross.  

This remains an active investigation.  Detectives are currently pursuing all active and viable leads in an effort to identify and locate the criminals responsible for this shooting and murder.  Evidence recovered at and near the scene indicates that this shooting may have been, in part, motivated by the illegal sales of drugs.
