(March 10, 2015, Lawrenceville, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police Department officers responded to a theft call at Dineros Envios (6230 South Norcross Tucker Road, unincorporated Tucker) on February 23, 2015. Employees reported a man dressed in a Dunbar (armored car service) uniform came into the business and picked up a deposit of more than $63,000. The suspect knew the appropriate schedule for pick up, and the proper procedures, which included signing a logbook for the deposit. The suspect drove away from the scene in a black passenger car.
Dunbar employees reviewed the security footage of the incident and tentatively identified the suspect as former employee Marcus Trombetta (B/M, 35 years old). Trombetta left Dunbar in 2008. Detectives were able to determine that the getaway vehicle was a black 2001 Mercedes passenger car and that Trombetta owned a similar vehicle. The victim identified Trombetta as the suspect when presented with a photo lineup. An arrest warrant for theft by deception was obtained.
Detectives served a search warrant at Trombetta’s residence on March 3, 2015. They located approximately $55,000 in cash, as well as the firearm worn by Trombetta as part of the Dunbar uniform. They determined that Trombetta had worked for Loomis (armored car service) after leaving Dunbar, but had been fired in 2014. There were several Loomis uniforms inside the home. Detectives also located an ATM hatch key and 255 ATM/debit cards that did not belong to the suspect. There were also two gambling tables and other evidence that led detectives to believe Trombetta was running a gambling operation out of the home.
Trombetta was arrested during the execution of the search warrant. He is in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. He is charged with theft by deception, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, and keeping a gambling place. Detectives believe that Trombetta acted alone during this theft and do not currently suspect him of involvement in any similar incidents. Investigation into the ATM/debit cards is ongoing.
